Dick Vitale announces he’s cancer free following lymphoma remission

The longtime voice of college basketball is cancer free.

Dick Vitale announced on Twitter on Wednesday that the lymphoma his doctor had discovered in October after having surgery in August to remove melanoma, had gone from being in remission to being cleared.

“Dr Rick Brown just notified me with my results of my major Pet Scan & told me news I wish EVERY cancer patient can hear,” Vitale tweeted. “He said ‘Dick u have gone from being in remission to being CANCER FREE’ ! Thank u to ALL of YOU that have sent me [prayers].”

The 83-year-old ESPN announcer finished his sixth and final chemotherapy treatment by ringing the bell at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida in April.
