The second season of the upcoming Netflix hit show ‘One Piece‘ is set to begin filming in mid-June 2024, as confirmed by an earlier Production Weekly Issue 1393.
According to reports, filming for the next season will commence in South Africa, with Spain and Mexico also being considered locations.
New Co-Showrunner Joined ‘One Piece’ Season 2
Image Source: Netflix Recently, Deadline confirmed that Joe Tracz, co-executive producer of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, has been confirmed as the executive producer and co-showrunner of ‘One Piece’ Season 2. He will work alongside returning Season 1 writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner Matt Owens. Steve Maeda, who developed the series with Owens and served as Season 1 co-showrunner, remains an executive producer.
In a statement, Tracz said, “I’ve been lucky to work on big adaptations of several beloved series, and they don’t come bigger or more beloved than One Piece.” Tracz added, “I’m a huge fan of Oda-san’s incredible imagination and I was blown away by what the live-action team created in Season One. So it’s a dream and a joy to come aboard the Going Merry as it enters the Grand Line for an even more giant Season Two.”
Owens said, “Joe has brought a wealth of enthusiasm and experience into our second season that will help take One Piece to new heights.” He added, “We’re incredibly lucky to have him as a co-captain of this ship. The best crew on the seas grows larger!”
‘One Piece,’ a live-action series based on Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga, is a co-production between Netflix and Tomorrow Studios, with Netflix overseeing physical production. The show is written and executive produced by Steven Maeda, with Owens also serving as a writer and executive producer. Additionally, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, along with Eiichiro Oda, the manga’s author, are executive producers.

Season 1 is the No. 1 show in 86 countries, breaking its previous record of 84 countries. It also outperformed “Stranger Things” Season 4 and “Wednesday,” which were ranked No. 1 in 83 countries. Also, it debuted at the top of Netflix’s Weekly Global Top 10 with 18.5 million views (140.1 million hours), making it the highest-ranking English TV series since the chart reform in June 2023. Currently, it holds the title of the most popular TV show on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes.
