Born in 1960, Rosemary Kariuki is 60 years of age as of January 2021. Born and raised in Kenya, she fled from her birthplace and arrived in Australia.
Rosemary Kariuki married instantly after finishing her studies. Her husband was emotionally and psychologically abusive as per Hope 103.2.
Though her marriage was not a happy one, the good thing she got from there is, her 2 sons.
It is found that Rosemary is called “Big Mama Rosemary” by her community. It is because she has made a lot of contributions to volunteering for the African community.
Rosemary has a big family. Her father had 2 wives, one of them is her mother. And in total, she had 15 siblings. Including her cousins, uncles, and other family members living together in the same house, her family consisted of like 50 people.
The social service volunteer, Rosemary is yet to be enlisted on Wikipedia. However, for her bravery and courage, she has been featured on many websites and many news channels covered news about her.
What makes her feel so good is when she sees people overcoming abuse and violence and stand up on their own two feet and smile. That’s where she becomes utterly satisfied and that’s why she likes doing her work.
Kariuki had accepted that she has been a victim of sexual abuse in her own home. But when she complained about it to her parents, she would be the one to be blamed.
She has partnered with the African Women’s Group and started the African Women’s Dinner Dance 14 years ago as per Australian Of The Year. And that initiation has brought over more than 400 women, who attend its annual event.
With a documentary subject called Rosemary’s Way, the Kenya-turned-Australian native made it to Australian of The Year, a non-profit Australian Government-owned social enterprise.
