Stream Deck discord plugin not working: How to fix it

Since the past couple of years, the Stream Deck has seen widespread use thanks to the rise in popularity of streaming. From artists and coders to casual users and streamers, there are a lot of things that a Stream Deck is useful for. And Discord seems to be a popular choice with many users. Unfortunately, there’s this issue where the Discord plugin simply doesn’t work at all when using the Stream Deck. Don’t worry, though. This guide here will help you fix that.

This is not a new issue and has plagued all Stream Deck hardware iterations. Sometimes the issue occurs due to users not properly installing the Discord plugin, while at other times it happens due to outdated software versions or antivirus blocking the Stream Deck software. Whatever the cause may be, this issue needs to be fixed. So, let’s go ahead and check out all the possible workarounds for this.

Elgato was aware of this issue and promptly released an update that fixed it. However, if you still happen to be facing this problem, then we recommend taking a look at the following workarounds:

Exclude Stream Deck from your antivirus –

Make sure that you have excluded Stream Deck from your antivirus. Doing so might help you with dealing with this issue. You can use the following steps if you don’t know how to do that.

  • Open Windows Settings and navigate to Privacy & Security > Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection.

  • Now scroll down and click on Manage settings under Virus & Threat Protection settings.

  • Scroll down once again and click on Add or Remove exclusions under Exclusions.

  • In the next window, select Add an Exclusion. Now, browse and add StreamDeck.exe.

Ensure that the Stream Deck is authorized with Discord –

A cause behind this issue could be that the Stream Deck is simply not authorized with Discord. So, what we suggest you do is drag any action to a key and then see if a Request Access button appears on your screen. If it does, authorize it and that should fix this issue. By the way, we also recommend that you use this official Discord Plugin guide from Elgato and follow the steps thoroughly.

Delete everything inside PluginStoreCache –

This particular user was able to bypass this issue by deleting everything inside the PluginStoreCache folder. And as such, we suggest you try this same method too. Basically, first, you need to head over to this path: C:Program FilesElgatoStreamDeckPlugins. Next, open the PluginStoreCache folder and clear everything inside. Now, open the program, reinstall, and add the Discord Plugin. Additionally, another user also tried a similar method, but instead of deleting everything inside the PluginStoreCache, the user simply deleted this Elgato Discord folder: com.elgato.discord.sdPlugin found in this directory: C:UsersYOUR_USERNAMEAppDataRoamingElgatoStreamDeckPlugins. Make sure that you do this after restarting your PC. First, restart your PC, delete the Elgato Discord folder, and then reinstall the Discord plugin. Doing so should fix the issue.

Update –

Check if there’s an update available for Discord and the Discord plugin. Discord is generally updated automatically on restart, so just restart your PC and do it. Once you have updated both Discord and Discord plugin, you should go ahead and reauthorize plugin access. That should be enough to fix this problem. However, if the issue persists, you can try another workaround.

Download Discord Plugin from the Elgato Marketplace –

Another user bypassed this particular problem by heading to the Elgato Marketplace from their Stream Deck app and then searching for the Discord plugin. Once found, the user saw the Get option available despite the plugin already being installed. If you also get the same Get option, make sure to click on it and install the Discord plugin once again. After that, the user simply reauthorized Discord and that fixed this issue. We suggest you do the same and see if it works for you too. If it doesn’t, switch to another method.

Back up your profile and reinstall –

This particular workaround comes courtesy of the official Elgato Technical Support. What they suggested was to basically back up your Stream Deck profile first, and then uninstall the Stream Deck software. Afterward, you need to restart your PC, reinstall Stream Deck, and then restore your profile if you want to do so.

Remove registry keys –

One user got around this issue by simply removing registry keys and all files associated with Discord using Revo Uninstaller. Moreover, users can also try removing the following two folders as a partial fix of sorts, as suggested by the original commenter:

  • “C:Users1. ACCOUNT_NAMEAppDataRoamingDiscord”

  • “C:UsersACCOUNT_NAMEAppDataLocalDiscord”

Search for Discord in the Elgato Marketplace and click on the mute button on the Stream Deck –

u/YieYie dealt with this issue by searching for Discord in the Elgato Marketplace and then opening the app from there. After that, the user clicks on the Open in Stream Library option. Following this, all that needs to be done is click on the mute button on the Stream Deck and this will prompt you to authorize Discord once again. Do that and then check if the issue persists.

And that’s all the workaround we have for this issue. You can also take a quick look here if you want to know how to join Discord voice chat on your PS5. Lastly, keep following DigiStatement for more such content. Also read: Xbox Discord relink account not working: How to fix it?
