Steam Deck KDE Wallet Popup: How to disable it

The world of PC handhelds is fairly new, but it’s exploding in popularity at an incredible rate. And a major player behind this is Valve’s Steam Deck. Released back in February of 2022, the Steam Deck is truly a great PC handheld. While it might not be as powerful as some of its competitors, like the Asus Rog Ally and the Lenovo Legion Go, it’s still able to compete with them all thanks to Valve’s amazing customer service and software support. From Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 to Stardew Valley and Chained Echoes, users are able to enjoy a plethora of games on the Steam Deck. However, there are some things with the Steam Deck that many players would like to get rid of. And a major one happens to be the KDE Wallet popup.

For the uninitiated, KDE Wallet is a password manager available for the Steam Deck. While it’s a great little app, there’s this popup that displays every time on the screen after a user switches to Desktop Mode or tries to use the Edge browser. It happens so much that a lot of Deck users are annoyed with it. And if you are reading this guide, then you must be one of these users too. Well, you have come to the right place. By the end of this guide, you will have completely disabled the KDE Wallet popup on your Steam Deck. So, without further ado, let’s go ahead and find out how you can do that.

Steam Deck KDE Wallet Popup: How to disable it

It’s pretty easy to disable the KDE Wallet popup. Now, in order to disable it on your Steam Deck, you will first have to switch to Desktop Mode. That can be done by clicking on the Steam button on your Deck and then selecting Power from the options present. Next, scroll down and click on Switch to Desktop option. You are now in Steam Deck’s Desktop Mode.

Next, open the Dolphin File Manager and click on the three horizontal bars or the hamburger menu located in the top-right corner of the screen. After that, check the Show Hidden Files checkbox. The Steam Deck will now show you all the files inside it, including the previously hidden ones. Now, what you need to do is navigate to this path: /home/deck/.config.

Once you are inside the .config folder, scroll down and look for a file named kwalletrc. Right-click the file and select Open with Kate. When Kate opens, go to the last line under [Wallet] and add the following: “Enabled=false”. If it’s Enabled=True, simply change it to false, and that should be it. Now, you can close everything and restart the Steam Deck. From now on, you will not see any more KDE Wallet popups. Additionally, if you are comfortable with using Mozilla Firefox, then we recommend that you use that instead of Edge in order to not receive the popup.

And that’s all you need to disable the KDE Wallet popup on your Steam Deck. You can also take a quick look here if Proton Tricks isn’t working on your Steam Deck.
