SNY’s Willie Colon goes off on Jets’ Zach Wilson stubbornness: ‘Not cute anymore’

SNY’s Willie Colon goes off on Jets’ Zach Wilson stubbornness: ‘Not cute anymore’

The Jets may have come away with a win over the Giants, but that didn’t spare them from the wrath of former player and SNY analyst Willie Colon.

Colon went off on the Jets during the postgame show following the ugly comeback victory.

The former guard sounded extremely frustrated over the Jets’ quarterback’s inability to get the ball in the end zone for most of the game and his inefficiency on third down.

“The Jets were 1-for-14 on third down. I’m not even mad at Zach Wilson anymore,” Colon said. “I’m not. I’m mad at coach [Robert] Saleh. I’m mad at that whole building, because time after time, they’ve forced down our throats that Zach Wilson is the future for the New York Jets. Because of what he does in practice is good enough for what he does on the field.

“You cannot watch that tape and say that right now. It is an embarrassment. It is not cute anymore. It is beyond cute. You ask your third string offensive line to fight tooth and nails and we only got one first down in which he ran for.”

Wilson did have a big touchdown pass in the first quarter – a 50-yard pass to Breece Hall for the Jets only TD of the game – and completed 17 of 36 pass attempts for 240 yards as the Jets improved to 4-3 on the season.

The Jets starter was sacked four times.

“When is it not cute anymore? Like when is it? I’m being serious cause if me and Bart [Scott] played like that, we wouldn’t have a job,” Colon continued. “We wouldn’t be in the NFL. We wouldn’t be on this table. We wouldn’t be worthy of talking about football. If the Giants kicker doesn’t miss that field goal this is beyond cute. … Is that what we have to rely on to get a win?”

The Jets caught a break when Giants kicker Graham Gano missed a 35-yard field goal wide left late in the game to keep Gang Green alive.

Wilson had been sacked on fourth-and-10 with 1:33 left in the game prior to that in a play that looked like it had sealed a Jets loss.

Greg Zuerlein kicked a field goal at the end of regulation to tie the game and he kicked a 33-yard field goal for the win.
