Prince Harry wanted to leave royal family before marrying Meghan Markle: author

Prince Harry seemed to be itching to leave the royal family even before he married Meghan Markle.

In a resurfaced 2017 interview with author Angela Levin, the Duke of Sussex, 38, claimed he “wanted out” of royal life.

The “Harry: A Biography of a Prince” writer had spoken to him about his desire for an “ordinary life” and she penned his thoughts for her Daily Mail column at the time.

“I spent many years kicking my heels and I didn’t want to grow up,” Harry told the journalist.

“I felt I wanted out but then decided to stay in and work out a role for myself,” he added.

The now-father of two went on to say how he is “determined to have a relatively normal life” and hoped that he would be lucky enough to have children in the future.

He then recounted what it was like to walk with his brother Prince William behind their mother Princess Diana’s coffin at her 1997 funeral when they were barely teens.

“I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. It certainly wouldn’t happen today,” he recalled.

Levin then wrote how she wouldn’t describe Harry as a “‘clown prince’ or a moaner, but a wounded prince.”

Harry and Markle, 41, made the shocking decision to make the move to North America and took a step back as senior members of the royal family in 2020.

The couple later did a lengthy interview with Oprah Winfrey a year later and also dropped their Netflix series “Harry & Meghan” this past December.

The Invictus Games founder also published his bombshell memoir “Spare” in January.

These projects often highlighted their exit from the royal family and their yearning to walk away from the duties of being a Windsor.

Harry and the former actress began dating in 2016 and tied the knot in 2018 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

However, their seemingly loving relationship could be on the brink of crumbling, according to Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell.

The 64-year-old recently alleged that Harry has “finally woken up to the truth” about Markle.

“Has he finally seen the truth of what his wife is doing and that he’s been brainwashed and mesmerized by her beauty or something? Because we all know that but he doesn’t seem to see it,” Burrell said on GB News.

“There is an element of Harry we all love, we just don’t understand why he’s doing what he’s doing at the moment.”
