John Simpson, Morgan Moses thrilled with unexpected Jets reunion

As John Simpson was weighing his options in free agency, the guard talked to his Ravens teammate Morgan Moses, who had played for the Jets in 2021.

“He called me about the Jets and I was like, ‘You’re going to love it there,’” Moses said Wednesday.

Little did either man know they would end up playing together in green.

The Ravens traded Moses to the Jets, for a sixth-round pick and a fourth-round pick swap, a few days after that conversation.

The Jets will now have Simpson at left guard and Moses at right tackle as part of their rebuilt offensive line.

“Being able to have a guy that you obviously know going through the free-agency portal and all those things, I look forward to obviously lacing up the cleats and putting on the helmet and shoulder pads with him again,” Moses said.

Moses could not have tipped his friend off about his trade.

He did not see it coming.

In fact, the night before he was texting with running back Derrick Henry, who had just agreed to a deal with the Ravens.

The next day, Moses found out he was traded to the Jets.

“I literally had no idea what was taking place at the time, but I’m truly happy to be back in New York,” Moses said.

Moses, 33, has been durable throughout his career, but he played through a torn pectoral muscle last season that required surgery after the season was over.

“I actually tore my pec Week 4, which was pretty fun,” Moses said. “I played the whole season with it and just learned how to manage through it. I had surgery about six weeks ago. I’m feeling great, moving around, working out, getting back in shape and things like that.”

Moses said he plans on being ready for training camp.

“I look forward to having two arms this year,” Moses said.

Simpson rejuvenated his career last season with the Ravens after playing his first three years with the Raiders.

“The new coaching staff came in [for Las Vegas], and they had their guy, they drafted a guy. I felt like they really didn’t want me there,” Simpson said. “I kind of lost my confidence and stuff like that along the way. When the Ravens picked me up, it was like a brand new start. It kind of gave me a fresh start to show myself and create a new identity for me. I feel like that is what I needed. I needed a jump start, and I think it’s paid off. It’s helped out a lot. It’s been big for me.”
