Yankees prospect Spencer Jones continues to impress

Here are some nuggets from Yankees’ spring training on Friday:

Spencer gifts

Spencer Jones, the 6-foot-7 outfielder the Yankees drafted in the first round of the 2022 draft, lined singles into right field and center field in his two at-bats in an 8-7 loss to the Tigers.

Jones is 4-for-12 in the Grapefruit League.

Hit parade

Domingo German allowed seven runs on nine hits — including four home runs — in 2 ²/₃ innings. German was not concerned.

He said he was trying to work on his fastball and missed location several times.

Caught my eye

Aaron Hicks shook off a foul ball that struck  his foot, singled to center and then stole his first base of spring training.

Hicks, who had 10 steals last season, could look to run more with the new rules around the game.

Saturday’s schedule

Nestor Cortes will make his Grapefruit League debut in Dunedin, Fla., against the Blue Jays at 1:07 p.m.
