Tom Brady throws out crazy new age for how long career can go

Tom Brady thinks he can play forever … ‘literally.”

The 44-year-old Buccaneers quarterback pushed back his playing age limit in an interview with Hannah Storm and Andrea Kremer before leading his team to a 28-22 Thursday night win over the Eagles.

“I really think I can play as long as I want,” Brady said Storm and Kremer, who call Thursday night games for Amazon Prime. “I could literally play until I’m 50 or 55 if I wanted to. I don’t think I will obviously … my physical body won’t be the problem. I think it’ll just be, I’m missing too much of my life with my family.”

Brady has previously kicked around the idea of playing till he’s 50, though, this is the first time he has mentioned the possibility of pushing that back another half a decade. Brady has another year left on his contract in Tampa Bay and has said he would re-evaluate at that point.

As ridiculous a notion as that sounds, the seven-time champ has disproved doubters at every turn. He led Tampa Bay to a Super Bowl last year in his first season away from New England, has the Bucs 5-1 this season and leads the NFL in passing yards.

Still, Brady made reference to his family — wife Gisele Bundchen and his three kids (two with Bundchen and one with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan) — as the reason he will hang up his cleats. Bundchen has previously mentioned her desire for Brady to retire soon.

Brady recalled the moments after leading the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl win over the Chiefs in February in an interview with James Corden.

“But anyway, we’re looking for my family. And I was saying, ‘Where’s my family? Where’s my family?’” Brady said.

“And all of a sudden I see my oldest son run over to me and he’s says, ‘Dad!’ I gave him a big hug. I saw my two little ones, and then I saw my wife. Just as I gave her a big hug, and just as I did it, she says, ‘What more do you have to prove?’”

We all may have to wait several years to find out the answer to that question.
