The ‘distressing’ reason why Amy Winehouse didn’t sing ‘James Bond’ theme song

Amy Winehouse fans may know that she was the frontrunner to sing the theme song for the 2008 James Bond flick “Quantum of Solace.”

Now, franchise producer Barbara Broccoli is opening up about why Winehouse wasn’t chosen, recalling a troublesome meeting she had with the British singer.

“Well, that was a very very distressing meeting, she was not at her best and my heart really went out to her,” Broccoli told Entertainment Weekly recently.

The 62-year-old went on: “She was very fragile emotionally and, you know, you understood how she could create such moving material, because she has a great depth of feeling and it was very very tragic.”

The executive continued: “What an incredible talent, what an incredible voice, what an incredible person she was and it was very, very sad.”

The “Back to Black” crooner died at the age of 27 and was found dead in bed at her London home in July 2011. She suffered from drug and alcohol problems for years prior to her death.

Winehouse and her musical partner Mark Ronson composed — but never finished — recording a theme in 2008.

The 007 bosses decided to go a different route and hired Alicia Keys and Jack White of the White Stripes to record instead.

Ronson, 47, announced at the time that he pulled his demo with Winehouse and said she’s “not ready to record any music.”

The “Uptown Funk” producer also noted that it would take “some miracle of science” to finish it.

White discussed getting the Bond gig in an episode of the podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” this past July and noted that he scored the job at the last minute.

“I got in because Amy Winehouse wasn’t showing up to the sessions or wasn’t delivering the song that they were asking her to do,” he said.

The rocker added: “So it was, ‘We were running out of time, we need somebody else…’ And I thought, ‘Oh, this was great, because now I’m gonna get away with murder; I’m gonna put things in this song, they would never approve of this.’”

“And that happened. The music director was not down with anything. He was trying to convince me to turn it into a ballad or something like that,” White said. “It’s one of the most divisive things I’ve been a part of.”
