The American Film Institute’s number one comedy of all time is headed to Broadway.
A stage adaptation of “Some Like It Hot,” based on Billy Wilder’s classic 1959 Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe blockbuster gender-bending film, opens at the Shubert Theatre on Friday, Nov. 18.
This time around, two-time Tony winner Christian Borle (who you may recognize from “Gilmore Girls”), J. Harrison Ghee (HBO’s “High Maintenance”) and Adrianna Hicks (Broadway’s “Six”) will lead the cast as Joe/Josephine, Jerry/Daphne and Sugar respectively.
For the uninitiated, the raucous farce tells the story of two male 1920s musicians who witness a mob hit. In an effort to disappear, the pair flee the state in an all-female band disguised as “Josephine” and “Daphne.”
Of course, hijinks ensue.
Most excitingly, tickets are still available to see the show live.
At the time of publication, we found seats going for as low as $78 before fees on Vivid Seats.
Most shows have tickets starting in the $80 range though.

“Some Like It Hot” Broadway schedule
The razzle dazzle musical comedy opens on Friday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m.
After that, the show will employ a slightly unorthodox schedule for its first two weeks.
Rather than going dark on Monday, “Some Like It Hot” will play at The Shubert eight times a week taking its day off on Thursdays.
In December, the show’s schedule is a bit all over the place.
However, once January rolls around, the production calendar will settle into a more typical eight show a week, Tuesday through Sunday groove.
For those hoping to attend an earlier showing, most matinees are scheduled for Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.

“Some Like It Hot” is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, including one intermission.

“Nobody’s perfect” but “Some Like It Hot’s” cast and creative team is pretty close.
Under the three aforementioned leads, Kevin Del Aguila (“Law and Order: SVU”), Natasha Yvette Williams (“The Good Fight”) and Adam Heller (“The Sopranos”) round out the cast.
The book was written by Matthew López (writer of the Tony Award winning “The Inheritance”) and Amber Ruffin, the host of Peacock’s “The Amber Ruffin Show.”
Marc Shaiman who wrote composed the soundtrack for “Sleepless in Seattle,” “South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut,” “When Harry Met Sally”, “Sister Act,” “Hocus Pocus” and many more, provides the music.
Scott Wittman, of “Hairspray,” “Mary Poppins Returns” and the musical within Disney+’s “Hawkeye,” serves as the production’s lyricist.
Directing and choreographing “Some Like It Hot” is Casey Nicholaw who previously helmed Broadway’s “Aladdin,” “The Book of Mormon” and “Mean Girls.”
“Some Like It Hot” 2022 update
While two men dressing in drag isn’t comedic fodder in 2022, there’s no need to worry. The cast and creative team have already acknowledged this hiccup and have addressed it in the text.
“There’s not a lot on stage that resembles the original,” playwright Matthew López told Vogue. “I’m not interested in being a photocopier.”
His reimagining details “the options women are given and the choices they have to make in relation to their options.”
“Let’s make it about people who don’t fit into society and what they do in order to survive,” he added. “It’s about rule breakers.”
In addition to the modern thematic changes, this new iteration also features new music, Black actors inhibiting previously white roles and a new time period for the characters to explore.
Plus, this time, “Some Like It Hot” unfolds in the 1930s rather than the Roaring ’20s.
