“Saturday Night Live” is currently on hiatus, but when it returns next month, there will be a first-time host making their debut on the NBC sketch show.
On Saturday, “SNL” announced it will welcome a new face on May 8. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been tapped to host the show and will be joined by musical guest Miley Cyrus.
Although the show is typically hosted by someone from the entertainment industry, Musk isn’t the first businessman to take on the task.
In 1983, Brandon Tartikoff, who was the head of NBC programming at the time, hosted the comedy sketch show. New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner followed in his footsteps in 1990 and hosted an episode of “Saturday Night Live.”
However, Cyrus is no stranger to appearing on the comedy sketch show. Her upcoming appearance will mark her sixth time as a musical guest.
Cyrus released her seventh studio album, “Plastic Hearts,” in November 2020. The release included three singles, “Midnight Sky,” “Prisoner,” and “Angels Like You.”
News of Musk’s hosting gig comes after his SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft launched its second operational flight and successfully docked at the International Space Station.
“The future’s looking good,” Musk said in a briefing with NASA officials after the spacecraft launch. “I think we’re at the dawn of a new era of space exploration.”
“Saturday Night Live” returns Saturday, May 8 at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
