‘The Traitors’ Creator Strikes Development Deal With Banijay

The Traitors creator Marc Pos is getting into business with Banijay.

Pos has struck a development deal with the Big Brother and MasterChef producer via his label MPLab and will forge non-scripted formats with broad international appeal alongside Banijay Chief Content Officer, Development, James Townley.

The rights to all IP created will sit with Banijay and will be available to its production labels and distributor Banijay Rights.

Pos is the Dutch creator of The Traitors, the smash hit that has been successful around the world and was the best-selling format last year, usurping The Masked Singer, according to K7. He forged The Traitors for IDTV, a company owned by Banijay rival All3Media, and The Traitors is sold by All3Media International. The game in which faithfuls have to sniff out traitors airs on the BBC in the UK and Peacock in the U.S., filmed in a castle in the Scottish Highlands.

Pos also directed season one of Banijay’s Big Brother in the Netherlands, Prinsengrachtconcert (a classical festival on Amsterdam’s canals), Maestro and the Popsecret concerts with Robbie Williams and Alicia Keys. Additionally, he worked on the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, and runs an ad agency, Brand New Telly, and event company, Kingcanary.

He called Banijay “the home of the superbrand.”

He added: “With a vast production network and leading distribution unit, it is the perfect testing ground for new formats, and in partnering with James and the group’s producers globally, I look forward to exploring, and rolling out, an ambitious development slate internationally.  Here’s to creating the next ‘ones to watch’.”

Townley said: “Marc’s creative talents are irrefutable, and we feel fortunate to be welcoming him to the Banijay fold. The deserved success of The Traitors has enthralled the industry and illustrated, with our own recent travelling hits Good Luck Guys, The Summit and The Fifty, that good shows are still able to draw global audiences. As K7’s ‘Distributor of the Year’, we feel we’re the perfect partner for MPLab’s ambitions, and look forward to collaborating on original IP that influences the cultural zeitgeist.”
