The Force still flows through Rian Johnson.
Five years after the Luke-warm reception to “The Last Jedi,” director Rian Johnson revealed Tuesday that his new trilogy is still very much alive and in development, reported Empire Magazine.
“It’s just at this point a matter of schedule and when it can happen. I’ve stayed close to Kathleen [Kennedy] and we get together often and talk about it,” Johnson told the publication, referring to the Lucasfilm president.
“It would break my heart if I were finished, if I couldn’t get back in that sandbox at some point.”
Johnson’s trilogy was announced in 2017 after his “Star Wars” directorial debut and had promised to feature “new characters from a corner of the galaxy that ‘Star Wars’ lore has never before explored,” according to IndieWire, which added that a parallel tagline was echoed by “Thor: Love and Thunder” director Taika Waititi — who is slated to have a “Star Wars” film in 2025.

“Now, everybody’s so busy – genuinely busy and working on things,” Kennedy said to Empire.

And we have to work three, five years in advance on what we’re doing. So that’s where that sits,” Kennedy added. “But we love him.”
Recently, Johnson expressed how proud he is of his film despite it receiving mixed reviews from critics and backlash from fans.
“When I was up at bat, I really swung at the ball,” Johnson said.

While fans might have to wait several more years for another trilogy, Disney has been churning out content with the upcoming series “Andor” starring Diego Luna, a third season of “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka,” starring Rosario Dawson.
