‘Queen’s Gambit’ director Scott Frank roasted for long 2021 Emmys speech

“Queen’s Gambit” director Scott Frank is getting a lot of heat for his long and overdrawn 2021 Emmys speech.

The filmmaker won the award for Outstanding Directing For A Limited Or Anthology Series or Movie for the Netflix show and spoke for about two minutes, despite the music trying to play him off.

“I’m almost done,” he said about mid-way through his speech over the exit music and continued speaking about the show’s star, 25-year-old Anya Taylor-Joy.

“Really?” he said, looking annoyed, as the music played on.

Twitter, of course, had something to say about Frank’s obnoxiously extended speech after his win.

One user shared a photo from the telecast of a gigantic red and white “stop” sign that is placed in the auditorium to signal celebs when it’s time to wrap up their speeches. “This is what they show when you go over 45 seconds in your acceptance speech,” the user said.

“Scott Frank wins Emmy for directing limited series, celebrates win with UNLIMITED SPEECH,” another viewer agreed.

One added, “I think the speech went longer than the entire series. Play him off, keyboard cat.”

“Wow. Scott frank for The Queen’s Gambit talked about as much as Debbie Allen did for her Governor’s award! That is some serious entitlement going on there…” a fan said. “I was a fan of “Queens Gambit” until Frank Scott decided to monologue for what felt like an hour,” another tweeted.

One praised “I May Destroy You” star Michaela Coel’s win and compared it to Frank’s. “Michaela Coel giving a concise, powerful, and humble speech directly after Scott Frank acting like an arrogant d–k and shushing the musical cue three times for more rambling self-importance is awards shows in a nutshell. (I like The ‘Queen’s Gambit’ but read the room dude),” the user explained.

“Scott Frank, speech was longer than the timeline of The Queen’s Gambit,” one wrote.

Another fan scribed, “That Scott Frank d–che from Queen’s Gambit just cost himself so many jobs with that performance. He showed everyone who he is.”
