Panthers reportedly listening to Christian McCaffrey trade offers

The Panthers are opening up shop to listen for deals for Christian McCaffrey.

Carolina turned down at least two teams’ offers for the star running back last week and will continue to do so unless they receive one they consider significant enough, however, ESPN reported.

Rumors have sparked up after the Panthers axed Matt Rhule after a 1-4 start to the season. Among the teams swirling was the Bills, whose general manager, Brandon Beane, used to work with the Panthers back in 2017 – the same year McCaffrey was drafted.

According to ESPN, Carolina plans to hold onto McCaffrey, unless they get an offer that contains a high draft pick or multiple picks.

Despite McCaffrey’s history of injuries, trading for the former Pro Bowler this year means any inheriting team would get his base salary of just $1.035 million, an amount that any franchise could sneak under its salary cap. The Panthers star’s salary, however, bounces back to $11.8 million next season.

The Panthers are also open to trading another piece of their offense, Robbie Anderson, which could be a signal they’re blowing up their roster for a full-on rebuild, according to the report.
