Three months after Lucasfilm gave “The Mandalorian” star Gina Carano the axe for a series of controversial social-media posts, the company has included her in their 2021 Emmy Awards campaign.
The 39-year-old’s name is listed under the Supporting Actress category in a “for your consideration” poster promoting various Season 2 stars of the Disney+ show, CNET reported. The poster also advocates for lead actor nominations for Pedro Pascal, supporting actor noms for Giancarlo Esposito and Temuera Morrison, and guest actor nods for 18 actors, including Rosario Dawson, John Leguizamo, Mark Hamill and Amy Sedaris.
Carano, a former MMA fighter who played Cara Dune on the series, was booted from the “Star Wars” spinoff in February after defending social-media posts that Lucasfilm at the time called “abhorrent and unacceptable” for “denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities.”
The most controversial of the messages — in addition to ones suggesting that convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein didn’t kill himself, seemingly “mocking” transgender-friendly pronouns, and discouraging mask-wearing while encouraging the opening of businesses — compared Nazi Germany to today’s political climate. “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors … even by children,” the since-deleted post read. “Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews.”
In addition to being fired from the hit series, Carano also had a Hasbro action figure of her scrapped. Instead of apologizing, though, she doubled down, calling the executives who booted her “bullies.”
“I’ve been through so much, and I’ve seen so much now, clearly, of the bullying that’s been taking place, and I saw it before,” Carano reportedly told conservative commentator Ben Shapiro of “The Daily Wire” in her first interview since being ousted, “I’m not the only one that’s ever been bullied by this company, and I know that so deeply.”
