Chernin Entertainment and King Features are developing a live-action ‘Popeye the Sailor Man’ movie.

According to Variety, the film’s script is penned by Michael Caleo (‘Sexy Beast,’ ‘The Family,’ ‘The Sopranos’) and will have a big budget.

In 2024, Popeye celebrated his 95th anniversary, marking nearly a century since his debut in the 1929 comic “Thimble Theater,” created by Elzie Crisler Segar. Popeye is a strong sailor famous for his spinach-powered strength and frequent clashes with his rival, Bluto. The 1980 film “Popeye,” starring Robin Williams in the titular role and Shelley Duvall as Olive Oyl, was the first live-action adaptation in decades.
