John Amos responds to daughter’s claim ‘Good Times’ star is elder abuse victim

The daughter of “Good Times” and “American Dad” star John Amos has claimed that her 83-year-old father is a victim of elder abuse and is “fighting for his life” in a hospital ICU.

A person purporting to be Shannon Amos made the accusation on a GoFundMe page Wednesday.

However, the actor is “doing well” while hospitalized in Memphis, Tennessee, a representative for John told The Post on Thursday.

Spokesperson Belinda Foster revealed that he is hospitalized because his lower body was filling with fluid all the way to his abdomen and causing heart issues.

Foster claimed that John did not authorize the GoFundMe page, which she said is not accurate, and reportedly had no clue about its existence.

The Post has contacted Shannon for comment.

Shannon suggested in an Instagram video Thursday that her dad “probably wouldn’t love that I started a GoFundME page” because he is a private person.

In a separate social media post not long after, she again claimed that he was “a victim of elder abuse” and further suggested he had faced “financial exploitation.”

John is a prolific actor with dozens of TV and movie appearances, including “Roots” and “The West Wing.”

The online fundraiser has a goal set of $500,000 to put toward John’s medical bills and recovery, as well as future legal fees “to catch and prosecute the alleged perpetrators.”

Shannon claimed that he suffered elder abuse at the hands of a “caregiver.”

“The cruelty inflicted upon my dad leaves me questioning what kind of human could commit such acts,” Shannon wrote on the fundraising page, saying John has been hospitalized since May 14.

She continued: “During the following weeks, my family and I unraveled a horrifying truth—my dad had fallen victim to elder abuse and financial exploitation. Determined to seek justice, we a [sic] are working closely with the Colorado Bureau of Investigations and the local Sheriff’s Department in my father’s home state.”

The Post has reached out to the CBI and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office for comment.

Back in October, Shannon shared a heartwarming video on Instagram that showed the father-daughter duo slow dancing together.

“If you’re blessed to still have your Dad, we challenge you to create a precious moment,” she wrote in the caption.

In April, Shannon showed off a special video message she left for Emmy-nominated John, who just last year appeared in an episode of the Max dramedy “The Righteous Gemstones.”

“I can’t imagine my life without him,” she captioned the video. “He’s been my rock through all of life’s ups and downs, offering unwavering support, guidance, and a listening ear. His sense of humor and storytelling is unparalleled.”

“We’ve had our share of challenges, but at his core he’s a big teddy bear and I feel blessed to call him my Dad.”
