iOS 15 Lets Users Locate Their iPhones Even If They Are Switched Off; Here's How

KEY POINTS

  • The iOS 15 introduces a lot of new and exciting features
  • This includes improvements in Find My app
  • The iOS 15 Update is now available

Apple released the iOS 15 update a few days ago and one of its interesting features allows owners to track their iPhone even if it is switched off. Here are some tips on how to do it.

The iOS 15 updates the traceability feature of the iPhone, especially the Find My app. Users can now locate their iPhone even if it is low on battery, resting, in power reserve mode or switched off.

To do this, iPhone users simply need to change the Find My Network functionality by first going to the Find My Settings and enabling the Find My Network feature. This particular feature is turned on by default.

Apple says iPhone users can locate their devices using this feature for up to 24 hours.

"The Find My network and Activation Lock can locate your device even after it has been erased. To help ensure that nobody is tricked into purchasing your device, the Hello screen will clearly show that your device is locked, locatable and still yours," the tech giant noted.

Aside from that, users can turn on the Separation Alerts, which allows them to find the device within their residence. Through this, the iPhone will alert users if they have left behind a compatible device, while the Find My option will provide users the directions to find the item.

Apple's iOS 15 also improves Live Locations, which is essential when tracking down a family member using the Find My app. It now offers continuous streaming updates of the target's location instead of updating users with a new location every few minutes.

This feature aims to offer an immediate sense of direction, speed and progress when users are looking for someone's location, the Cupertino-based company said.

There is also a Find My widget option that users can add to the Home screen or the Today View. iPhone users can use this to track items without opening the Find My app. The widgets will be available in small and medium sizes and can be used to track people and items.

The People feature allows users to track family members who have their location sharing activated, while the Items feature tracks AirTag and third-party devices that use the Find My network.
