‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ trailer: Gamora’s return stuns Marvel fans

Zoe Saldaña’s remarkable return to the Marvel universe is leaving some fans perplexed.

The trailer for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” dropped Thursday — and Saldana’s Gamora appears alongside franchise alumni Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff. The flick is due out in theaters May 5.

Saldana’s presence stunned some in the fandom since Gamora was killed off in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Here’s the explanation for the confounding homecoming: The Gamora in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” was introduced in “Avengers: Endgame.” Characters in the 2019 film performed a time heist that enabled a younger version of Gamora to travel to the future to help wage the battle against Thanos (played by Josh Brolin).

This version of Gamora had yet to meet Pratt’s Peter “Star-Lord” Quill — and when she encounters him during battle, she does not recognize him. Gamora from the first two “Guardians” films is dead.

Fans joined forces on social media to compare notes.

“My brain right now: ‘i’m so happy!! Gamora’s back with the guardians!’ ‘…but that’s not the same Gamora..’ ‘but look!! cute shot with her and the others..’ ‘the Gamora they know is DEAD,’ ” one diehard sputtered.

“SO SHES STILL ALIVE???? TIME DISPLACED GAMORA IS STILL IN THE MAIN TIMELINE WHATT?” another asked.

“Still questioning how Gamora is in guardians vol 3 is insane. ENDGAME HAS BEEN OUT 4 YEARS…,” a fan reminded users.

“Didn’t Gamora di-,” one user mocked uninformed fans.

Other viewers weighed Gamora’s future.

“Mind you Gamora already died once and they went through all that trouble bringing her back so she’s the one least likely to die in vol 3,” one person hypothesized.

“At least we know Gamora is 100% safe since surely they wouldn’t kill her off again right,” another hoped.
