Girls' Generation Alumna Jessica Jung Says 'Like' Button On Social Media Causes Insecurities

Girls' Generation alumna Jessica Jung has a thriving fashion brand to her name and is considered as one of the most successful social media personalities in this generation. Despite her status, she believes the "Like" button has negative effects on people.

The 32-year-old former K-pop idol, who owns the hip fashion label Blanc & Eclare, opened up about what she would like to change on social media in an interview with CNBC that was released Sunday.

"I would change the 'Like' button, maybe. I feel it can cause some insecurities for people," Jung said. "I've seen it happen to a lot of people around me."

"I'm glad that I have great people to support me; to talk to; but there are people who don't have that and that one 'Like' button can really ruin their day or their life," she added.

Jung, who left Girls' Generation in 2014, has more than 9.9 million Instagram followers.

Asked for her advice to aspiring social media influencers, the former K-pop star emphasized they need to have a "unique character" that would set them apart from the rest.

"There are a lot of influencers out there. You should really have a distinct character or vibe to your account," she said.

"For fashion, maybe if you want to have like a very chic mood or a very romantic mood. You just need to make your account beautiful but genuine at the same time with a lot of character in it. You'll kinda stand out in your own way. Just find that little small characteristic that's different from others, it will change the world for you," she further said.

Aside from her clothing and accessories label, Jung is also busy doing promotions for cosmetic company Revlon after she was appointed as a global ambassador for the brand in April 2020.

"It's official. I'm @revlon girl! Super excited to be part of the family," she wrote in an Instagram post last year. The announcement was accompanied by a clip showing her activities in the entertainment industry as well as snippets of her using products from the brand.

During the interview with the outlet, Jung also confirmed the return of her reality show with her sister Krystal later this month.

She is set to release her new book "Bright" next year. It is the sequel to the New York Times Bestseller, "Shine," which came out in 2020.
