The partnership between Giants head coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale could be hanging by a thread.
Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported on the pregame show before the Giants-Patriots game that tension has been building between the two to the point that a breakup might be on the horizon.
“These guys are in a bad place,” Glazer said of Daboll and Martindale. “Bad place to the point where I don’t see them actually continuing their relationship after the season, maybe not even during the season. It could be a mutual parting of the ways.”
Glazer said people within the Giants organization “can feel” the tension, and he reported that “it’s just getting worse.”

Martindale denied there was a rift between the two earlier this month after cameras showed conversations between he and Daboll before and after halftime during a loss to the Cowboys.
Both Daboll and Martindale are in their second season with the Giants after leading the team to a surprise playoff berth a year ago, defeating the Vikings in the wild-card round before falling to the Eagles in the divisional round.
But everything has unraveled this year for the Giants, who are 3-8 entering Sunday’s game against the equally miserable 2-8 Patriots.

Daboll, 48, is in his first stint as an NFL head coach after many years as an assistant, most recently spending four seasons as the Bills’ offensive coordinator.
Martindale, 60, is a longtime NFL defensive coach who was the Ravens’ defensive coordinator for four years before joining the Giants. He was the Ravens’ linebackers coach for six seasons before his promotion.
