Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t want soda at his press conferences.
On Monday, the Juventus star wasn’t happy to see two Coca-Colas bottles placed near his microphone in a press conference ahead of Portugal’s opening Euro 2020 game against Hungary in Budapest.
A stone-faced Ronaldo sat down in his chair, removed the soda bottles to the far end of the table, and advised others to stay hydrated.
“Drink water,” the 36-year-old said in Portuguese.
Ronaldo, who’s known for his passion for living a healthy lifestyle, then raised a bottle of water in the air to get his point across.
Meanwhile, Portugal’s head coach, Fernando Santos, who sat alongside Ronaldo, left additional Coca-Cola bottles near his mic.
The moment has since gone viral and even caught the attention of another sports legend who embraces a clean eating and healthy lifestyle.
Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady took to Twitter to applaud Ronaldo disdain for soft drinks.
“It’s almost like the veterans know what they’re doing,” the seven-time Super Bowl champion wrote above a photo collage of Ronaldo endorsing water in the press conference.
In December, Ronaldo condemned soft drinks, specifically Coca-Cola, when he discussed his 10-year-old son’s soccer potential.
“I’m hard with him sometimes, because he drinks Coca-Cola and Fanta sometimes and I’m pissed with him and I fight with him when he eats chips and fries, he knows I don’t like it,” Ronaldo said about his eldest son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. at the 2020 Globe Soccer Awards.
“We have to be strong.”
Ronaldo and Portugal face off against Hungary on Tuesday at 12 p.m.
