Chris Pratt Explains Playing Star-Lord Differently In 'GOTG' And Other Marvel Movies

Chris Pratt revealed how his Star-Lord character, also known as Peter Quill, was different in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies and in other Marvel movies. The 42-year-old actor explained how director James Gunn made an impact on the character.

"Well, you know, there’s James Gunn’s Peter Quill and then there’s the Peter Quill that has existed outside of James Gunn, which is in cameos in The Avengers and now the cameos in Thor," Pratt told Gizmodo in an interview published Thursday.

The actor shared how Gunn makes the character an "extension" of him. However, when the director isn't helming the movie, then his character feels more freedom.

"And so truly the Peter Quill that I do when James is in charge is an extension of him," he added. "And the Peter Quill that I do when it’s not him in charge is really kind of me let loose to do a little bit more than probably, he would want me to do, in some way. So I guess the difference would be that."

Pratt noted that Gunn doesn't have the same focus on other Avengers or Thor, referring to the upcoming Marvel movie, "Thor: Love and Thunder," which is helmed by director Taika Waititi.

"James Gunn has a (focus) for Quill that isn’t on for Thor or for Avengers. And so we’ll see how that plays out when it comes out," he added. "I mean, we’re obviously dealing with the end of Avengers and where that left the Guardians of the Galaxy with Thor (Love and Thunder)."

The "Jurassic World Dominion" star revealed that the transition seen in the upcoming installment, "Thor: Love and Thunder," will help to set up "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," which is slated to release on May 5. "We’ll see how that sort of transition works to set up (Guardians of the Galaxy) Volume 3," he said.

"Thor: Love and Thunder," on the other hand, will release on July 8.

Apart from these two movies, fans will also get to see "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" this year, releasing on Nov. 11. In case you have missed it, here's a list of Marvel movies releasing in 2022 and 2023.
