Armie Hammer replaced by Noah Reid in Broadway’s ‘The Minutes’

Armie Hammer’s replacement in the upcoming Broadway play “The Minutes” was announced on Friday. The actor’s role will instead be played by “Schitt’s Creek” alum Noah Reid.

Hammer, 35, has been embroiled in controversy since January when multiple women accused the “Call Me By Your Name” star of sexual abuse. Unverified DMs, allegedly sent by Hammer, were posted on Instagram describing kinky sex acts and cannibalism.

“I am 100 per cent a cannibal. I want to eat you,” one message read.

In the wake of the allegations, the actor departed the movie “Shotgun Wedding” and released a statement. “[I]n light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,” he said.

Then, in March, an ex-girlfriend who went only by Effie claimed that Hammer “violently” raped her in 2017 when she was 20 years old.

Hammer has denied the allegations.

The actor has been losing work since the claims surfaced. He was dropped by his agency WME and replaced by Miles Teller in a “Godfather” TV series called “The Offer.” In March he was kicked out of the new thriller “Billion Dollar Spy” and Disney+ pulled an episode of “Running Wild with Bear Grylls” he was featured in.

Now Reid, a 34-year-old Canadian who is best known for playing Patrick on “Schitt’s Creek,” will make his Broadway debut in the role of Mr. Peel in “The Minutes.”

The rest of the cast of the Tracy Letts play, which premiered at Steppenwolf Theater Company in Chicago, includes Ian Barford, Blair Brown, Cliff Chamberlain, K. Todd Freeman, Letts, Danny McCarthy, Jessie Mueller, Sally Murphy, Austin Pendleton and Jeff Still.

“The Minutes” begins performances at Studio 54 on March 19.
