The Australian division of the international dairy company Saputo Inc. has announced a recall of several of its products due to possible contamination.

Saputo Dairy Australia Pty Ltd. has recalled eight butter and spreadable butter blend products under the Devondale and Woolworths Butter brands over "potential microbial contamination," Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) said in a statement released Wednesday.

No further information regarding the cause of the recall was disclosed by the agency.

The recalled products were listed as follows:

  • Devondale Salted Butter 250g (Best before May 18 and June 4, 2022)

The products have been available for sale in Australia at various outlets including Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, Costco and independent supermarkets. It was unclear if the products were also made available in other countries.

Consumers who have the recalled products are advised not to eat them as food products with microbial contamination may cause illness if consumed.

"Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice. Consumers should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund," the agency said.

Saputo Dairy Australia Pty Ltd., which operates other brands in the country such as Cracker Barrell and Mersey Valley, can be contacted for further information through their customer service team at 1800 032 479.

Authorities in Canada recently announced a similar recall of all products sold by two companies until the end of last year over a threat of possible bacteria contamination.

Bistak Enterprises Inc. and Bistak Groceries Inc., based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, recalled all food products sold up to Dec. 29 due to possible Salmonella contamination caused by a rodent infestation, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

The only named product in the recall was Carotino Palm Cooking Oil, while the rest "may include dry foods such as grains, beans, flour; grocery canned goods; fats and oils; drinks; meat products; fish products; baked goods; spices; and milk powder," the food regulatory body said.

More products may be recalled following an investigation by the CFIA.
