Why Chris Kreider threw Mika Zibanejad’s tablet on Rangers bench after missed shot

No, Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider weren’t fighting over what Netflix show to watch on the bench.

In the Rangers’ come-from-behind, Game 6 victory over the Penguins on Friday night, Zibanejad was seen looking at an iPad only for Kreider to take it from it and throw it behind them. Zibanejad let Kreider explain his actions when they were asked about it after the game.

“Go ahead, you f–king threw it,” Zibanejad said.

Zibanejad had just missed a one-on-one chance against Penguins goalie Louis Domingue and wanted to get a closer look at it. Kreider took issue with it.

“He was looking at the breakaway and I heard him start second-guessing his move and didn’t really like that,” Kreider said after the game. “He beat him clean, it hit the post. No need to second-guess.”

There was little to second-guess about Zibanejad’s performance besides that missed chance. The first line center scored twice and added two assists in the 5-3 victory, by far his best game of the series, to force a do-or-die Game 7 at the Garden on Sunday.
