Virginia Tech fan has instant regret for flipping off ESPN camera

West Virginia handled Virginia Tech with ease on Thursday night, but it was something off the field that has people talking about the game.

One Hokies fan is making the rounds on social media after throwing up both middle fingers at a panning ESPN camera at the end of the third quarter – and then seemed to immediately regretting his decision, sinking back into his seat with his hands on his head.

The fan’s attempt to liven things up is understandable – it was an unremarkable 16-10 score at that point, with the game featuring just two touchdowns. Unfortunately, any instant regret felt by the fan didn’t get much better when the fourth quarter began.

West Virginia quickly blew it open in the final quarter. The Mountaineers scored a quick touchdown in the fourth quarter and tacked on a field goal before a 27-yard pick-six sealed the win.

“That was a great win,” West Virginia coach Neal Brown said. “I felt great about our preparation coming in, and this is one of the toughest venues to come in and play. I felt really good. This is something that we’ve been thinking about for a long time once we found out this was going to be a Thursday night game. I thought we played fast. We were really physical.”

The game — the final scheduled game between the two schools, just four hours away from one another — brought both teams’ records to 2-2. West Virginia will travel to Austin to face Texas next week and Virginia Tech will head to Chapel Hill to play North Carolina.
