After the death of the emperor, Yamato falls into chaos and Oshtor, the General of the Right, is accused of poisoning Empress Anju.
Oshtor claims to be innocent and reveals he is framed for a crime he never committed. In "Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth" Episode 1, the general uses the power of Akuruka to fight his enemies.
However, he has no choice but to fuse his body and soul with the world. Before bidding goodbye, he asks his friend Haku to take care of Anju and Nekone.
Haku takes up Oshtor’s mask and abandon’s his old life. He announces that he is Oshtor but Nekone knows the truth.
Later, they head to Ennakamui, where Anju starts to heal and rises up to reclaim her place as the Empress of Yamato.
However, Raikou, who is one of the Eight Pillar Generals, tries to take advantage of the ongoing chaos. He even puts a false empress on the throne.
Eventually, Yamato’s forces start marching toward Ennakamui to kill the true Empress, Anju.
“Yamato descends into chaos following the death of the emperor. Oshtor, the General of the Right, is a fugitive accused of poisoning Empress Anju. In a battle with his pursuers, he uses the full power of the Akuruka, fusing his body and soul with the world itself. Before he says goodbye, he entrusts Anju and Nekone's future to his friend Haku,” read the official series synopsis, as per Crunchyroll.
“Taking up Oshtor's mask and identity, Haku abandons his old life. He tells everyone, except Nekone, who knows the truth, that he is Oshtor,” it continued.
The cast of the anime includes Chinatsu Akasaki as Anju, Inori Minase as Nekone, Kentaro Tone as Oshtor (Haku) and Risa Taneda as Kuon, Ai Kakuma as Rurutie, Akeno Watanabe as Dori and Gura, Atsuko Tanaka as Karura, Atsushi Tamaru as Yashma, Ayumu Murase as Kiuru, Daisuke Kirii as Oboro, Daisuke Namikawa as Benawi, Ryotaro Okiayu as Raikou, and Hibiku Yamamura as Shis.
"Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth" Episode 1 is scheduled to air Saturday. The episode will stream on Crunchyroll in Japanese with English subtitles.
