The Rangers are still looking to find some sort of consistency. You just don’t know what you’re going to get from Gerard Gallant’s squad on a nightly basis. You get eight goals in Detroit Wednesday then a 2-1 loss in Nashville Saturday. With the Metro division getting better with teams like the Devils and Islanders improving, the Rangers are going to need to find their way. This team is no lock to make the playoffs.

To discuss how the Blueshirts can find some consistency along with some key roster decisions they need to make, we bring you a new episode of “Up In The Blue Seats” podcast. Producer Andrew Harts filled in for me as co-host along with Mollie Walker and the Hall of Famer Larry Brooks.

Up In The Blue Seats Podcast with Mollie Walker & Andrew Harts:

  • WEST COAST TRIP: Breaking down the roller-coaster ride thus far and where the team stands heading into their West Coast trip.
  • EARLY-SEASON OVERREACTIONS: Should the Rangers be considering a switch at backup goalie from Jaroslav Halak? Is goal differential a concern? Has the Metro division gotten much better while the Rangers have gotten worse?
  • MAILBAG QUESTIONS: Who is the odd player out with the cap crunch and roster decisions? Is Jimmy Vesey in the top six sustainable? Any chance that Matt Robertson or Will Cuylle get recalled from Hartford?

Larry Brooks Interview:
The Post’s Hockey Hall of Fame writer

  • INCONSISTENCY: Team has not been consistent. If Igor Shesterkin can play better, they will be fine.
  • REAVES’ ROLE: If Ryan Reaves had better foot speed, he would be playing better. Can he keep up? Don’t think Ryan Carpenter is going to be the guy to go. Would not expect them to make a move on this West Coast trip.
  • POWER-PLAY STRUGGLES: The first power-play unit has been staying on too long. They have been league average thus far this season.
  • SAMMY BLAIS: He clearly is not 100%. The last few games he’s played a bit more to his game.
  • DIRTY GOALS: Everyone wants to see dirty goals, but that’s just not their team. Don’t think Vincent Trocheck has found his game and comfort level yet here. He’s not at the level he was at in Carolina.
