‘Tiger King 2’ is official: Netflix is bringing back Joe Exotic’s ‘madness’

Joe Exotic and his infamous mullet are returning.

Netflix has officially announced that “Tiger King 2” will premiere on the streamer later this year, bringing “more madness and mayhem.” The big cat bombshell was dropped via Twitter on Thursday morning.

“Tiger King is coming back this year — and Season 2 promises just as much mayhem and madness as Season 1!” the streaming giant hyped in the cryptic tweet.

Meanwhile, the original “Tiger King” docuseries, which premiered in March of 2020, was one of the early hits of the pandemic before “Ted Lasso” and “The Queen’s Gambit” — racking up views from a staggering 64 million households, as a population trapped indoors became captivated by the bizarre story of Joe Exotic.

The gay polygamist zookeeper and aspiring politician (real name Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage), 58, is currently incarcerated in a federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas, after being convicted of a murder-for-hire plot against his rival, animal rights activist Carole Baskin, 60, who is herself the subject of speculation regarding her missing husband, Don Lewis.

Netflix has not specified the premiere date for “Tiger King 2” beyond “this year.”

The whole sordid saga was one of “truth is stranger than fiction,” which is why the world was captivated.

While the first “Tiger King” followed the messy and outlandish story of Exotic and Baskin, “Tiger King 2” hasn’t released much information about its subject matter, but it will still involve the now-incarcerated Exotic and Baskin, according to the streamer.

Meanwhile, the story will also be fictionalized on a series for NBC streamer Peacock. Called “Joe Exotic,” it will star John Cameron Mitchell (“Hedwig and the Angry Inch”), 58, in the title role and “SNL” star Kate McKinnon, 37, as Baskin. It does not yet have a premiere date.

Nicolas Cage, 57,  was also set to play Exotic in a series for Amazon, but the eccentric actor has since confirmed that project is no longer happening for the time being.
