  • Her husband was arrested in connection to her murder

A case was presented by prosecutors in court against a Texas man, whose wife was found dead with a gunshot wound and a bag wrapped around her head, as authorities believe he allegedly killed the woman over a $250K life insurance policy.

The victim, Yuanhua Liang, 48, had texted her husband, Christopher Collins, on Nov. 18, saying there was an intruder at their Harris County home. Collins was at the gym when the incident took place, reported ABC 13.

Collins told the cops he didn't rush home immediately because Liang has a history of being paranoid. He, however, said he called the Harris County Police Department and requested them to perform a welfare check on the woman, which culminated in her body being found with a sleep mask on her face and a plastic wrap around her head.

Investigators suspected Collins staged the entire crime, and lied to the police about his whereabouts. The cops found a .22 caliber live round in Collins’ pocket, which was the same as the ones in the gun used to shoot Liang. The police also learned Liang had signed a $250,000 life insurance policy just two days before her death, according to the outlet.

Collins denied having any life insurance, and told the deputies Liang had bought a 9 mm gun, but he didn't have any "ammunition," the Ohio News Times reported.

The police believe the murder wasn't the result of a home invasion, as the house wasn't ransacked. Investigators said Collins had surveillance cameras, which he used to check on his wife while he was out of the country but didn't check them on the day of her murder, which sparked suspicion.

During Collins' hearing, prosecutors said Liang's head wrapped in a bag produced further evidence against him as covering the victim's face was common when a suspect doesn't want to watch someone they know die.

"Which indicated the bag had been placed over her head after she had been shot. Based on the officer's training and experience, believes the action, which occurs when a person has a personal relationship with a deceased individual, does not want to see their face as they die," prosecutors said in court, ABC 13 reported. "Officers who searched the home found a sheet of paper on the desk inside the residence. The paper was for life insurance for $250,000. The officer stated that the defendant and the complainant had signed the paper for life insurance on Nov. 16, 2021."

Collins is being held in jail on a $150,000 bond. He was ordered to surrender his passport and not to talk to any witnesses.
