Actor Stephen Dorff admitted he “felt bad” for slamming Marvel’s “Black Widow” film and its star, Scarlett Johansson.
Dorff, 48, told TMZ that his shady comments were taken “a little bit out of context.”
“I love Scarlett. [She’s] a great actress,” he said. “I heard she’s going to be a mom, so I wish her the best, and she’s an old friend of mine, so I felt bad about that comment.”
The “Immortals” star added that he wrote Johansson, 36, an apology note after his criticism of the superhero flick went viral.
When asked if he would go see “Black Widow,” Dorff said he hadn’t, adding that he liked “darker” movies. “I don’t really go to those movies. I like ‘Iron Man.’ I like when they go a little darker. I love the ‘Joker.’ I’m looking forward to the new ‘Batman’ — Matt Reeves’ film,” he said.
Earlier this month, Dorff spoke with the Independent, saying that he felt “embarrassed” for the “Avengers” actress.
“I still hunt out the good s–t because I don’t want to be in ‘Black Widow,’ ” the “True Detective” star said when asked about his process of getting roles he’s offered.
“[‘Black Widow’] looks like garbage to me. It looks like a bad video game. I’m embarrassed for those people. I’m embarrassed for Scarlett,” he said. “I’m sure she got paid 5, 7 million bucks, but I’m embarrassed for her.”
“I don’t want to be in [Marvel] movies. I really don’t,” he continued. “I’ll find that kid director that’s gonna be the next [Stanley] Kubrick and I’ll act for him instead.”
Dorff starred in 1998’s “Blade,” which is a Marvel Comics title. During his recent TMZ interview, he praised Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, who will be starring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe “Blade” reboot next year.
