Robert Griffin III will detail being sexually harassed in upcoming WFT book

Robert Griffin III will document being sexually harassed in his upcoming book exposing the Washington Football Team, according to his wife, Grete.

Earlier this week, the former quarterback released a video in which he said that he was releasing a book, entitled “Surviving Washington,” in August. He promised to reveal injury mismanagement, organizational power struggles and sexual harassment.

The sexual harassment claims were not specific, so it was unclear whether he was referring to the litany of issues the franchise has already publicly faced — $1.6 million paid as part of a sexual misconduct settlement by owner Daniel Snyder, and scandals involving mistreatment of cheerleaders — or new allegations. We now know it’s the latter.

First, Griffin III’s wife tweeted that her husband would be detailing his own abuse.

“Let’s clear up a misconception about ‘Surviving Washington’,” Grete Griffin tweeted Wednesday. “In the book, Robert is not talking about other peoples experiences with sexual harassment in Washington. He is talking about his OWN experience with sexual harassment in Washington.

“Sexual harassment victims shouldn’t be pressured into speaking up when you want them to, they should speak up when they are ready, even if it’s 7-8 years later. Hopefully this book will encourage more of you to speak up and tell your story.”

In response to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio asking about the timing of the revelations, RGIII tweeted, “Sexual harassment victims should share their stories when they are ready not when you want them to. The book is not about other people’s experiences with sexual harassment in Washington. It’s about my experience with sexual harassment in Washington. Hopefully you will listen.”

There are still over nine months until Griffin III’s book will be released, so this story will likely remain in the news for some time.
