Rams’ Takk McKinley caught in heated exchange with teammate during 49ers loss

Monday night was defensive end Takk McKinley’s second game as a member of the Los Angeles Rams – and it did not lack for dramatic moments.

During the late moments of the Rams’ 24-9 loss to the 49ers on “Monday Night Football,” McKinley – who was recently promoted from the practice squad – was seen in a heated argument with Los Angeles linebacker Justin Hollins.

The ESPN broadcast showed the moment where McKinley appeared to snap at his teammate, darting in Hollins’ direction and trying to shove through the teammates who were restraining him. He eventually was taken to the side by a Rams staff member, and was later seen in an animated conversation with the staffer as the situation de-escalated.

It’s unclear exactly what the two were arguing about, but tensions were clearly high on the Rams sideline as they lost yet again to the NFC West rival 49ers. Since 2017, when both L.A. head coach Sean McVay and San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan were hired, the 49ers are 8-3 against the Rams in the regular season (though, McVay’s team did have the last laugh in the NFC Championship Game last year en route to a Super Bowl victory).

McKinley was also involved in another notable incident earlier in the game, when a protestor ran onto the field, halting play. While running near the Rams sideline, McKinley and linebacker Bobby Wagner decided to take matters into their own hands.

It was definitely Wagner who got the bigger hit, so maybe McKinley had some pent-up aggression left over.

With the 49ers’ win over the Rams, all four teams in the NFC West are now tied at 2-2.
