HBO Max’s upcoming drama, “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” has found its leading lady.
Freeform’s “Pretty Little Liars” reboot has cast “Good Witch” star Bailee Madison in the starring role of Imogen, described as a true survivor.
According to Deadline, the revival is a darker and more twisted version of the series, which aired from 2010 to 2017 and was based on the bestselling books by Sara Shepard. The new show is set in the present day and features new story arcs and brand new characters.
“PLL: Original Sin” will follow a group of friends living in the blue-collar town of Millwood as they find themselves haunted and tortured by an unknown figure making them pay for the sins of their parents, who committed an ungodly act twenty years prior.
Madison’s character is also described as a “final girl.” Imogen must step up to fight for her life and the lives of her friends as they uncover the new assailant who is harassing them.
Madison, 21, also joins new cast members, Chandler Kinney and Maia Reficco. The reboot was first announced in September 2020 and a teaser trailer was released.
The reboot comes from the minds of “Riverdale” and “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” creators, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring. Freeform’s original series was followed by two failed TV spinoffs, “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” and “Ravenswood.” Both shows were canceled after one season.
Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson and Sasha Pieterse starred in the 2010 teen drama series, which followed their tragic lives as they uncovered mysteries surrounding a hooded assailant called “A” who tormented them.
“Original Sin” started production this summer and a release date has yet to be set.
