The Outlast Trials Roadmap for 2024 & more details

The third installment of the popular Outlast series is finally here. Titled The Outlast Trials, it’s a first-person horror survival title and serves as the prequel to 2013’s Outlast and 2017’s Outlast 2. Red Barrels, the developer behind the series, first launched The Outlast Trials into early access back in May of 2023 and after months of active development, the game got its Version 1.0 release on March 5, 2024. The reception to TOT is very positive and suffice it to say that it’s one of the best co-op horror games out there right now. Now that Version 1.0 is out, fans are particularly curious about what Red Barrels has planned for the game.

Being a multiplayer game, it’s only evident that players would want to know whatever there’s to know about the future of The Outlast Trials. A roadmap helps a ton in that regard. While it’s not necessary to make a roadmap for your game, many developers prefer to have one so as to ensure that the player base knows what the dev team is working on and what they can expect in future updates. Red Barrels too have just recently published a roadmap for the game, which outlines what The Outlast Trials is slated to receive in 2024. So, let’s go ahead and have a proper look at it.

Red Barrels has planned a lot of new content for The Outlast Trials and that can be seen in their recently published roadmap. And of course, all of this will come with new variators, MK-Challenges, and rewards.

Come the Summer of 2024, Season 1 will arrive at The Outlast Trials. Red Barrels has been very secretive about what’s coming in with Season 1. So far, the only thing that they have shared is that Season 1 will have new Trials (Trial?), Prime Asset, Rig, Amps, and, of course, rewards and events. The developers also haven’t clarified just how long Season 1 will last. All in all, if you want to know more about Season 1, then there’s nothing else to do but wait.

The Roadmap also happens to have a Future category, which Red Barrels has stated “consists of features that we will be adding later in the year.” These planned features and content include daily/weekly tasks, Trials Infinite Mode, New Game Mode, New Trials, New Enemies, New Rewards, and New Events. Now, it’s unclear whether all of these will be added in Season 2 or a separate update. One thing is sure, though. 2024 is going to be a great year for The Outlast Trials.
