The potential new Greg Daniels and Michael Koman comedy series in The Office universe has locked in its first two stars: Domhnall Gleeson (The Patient) and Sabrina Impacciatore (White Lotus), who will be part of an ensemble, sources close to production tell Deadline. Details regarding their roles are under wraps. The Office studio Universal Television declined to comment, other than to confirm that the project remains in development.
As Deadline revealed exclusively in January, Daniels opened up a development room to explore ideas for a follow-up series to the Emmy-winning The Office. The prospective new series, which is not a reboot, is said to be set in a new office with new characters but live within the same world as the Steve Carell-led mockumentary series which follows employees at the Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. Daniels has indicated that a new Office iteration could follow a crew doing a documentary about a different subject.
Last month, we confirmed Koman’s role should the series move forward would be that of co-creator alongside Daniels.
Impacciatore is known for her role as hotel manager Valentina in the second season of HBO’s The White Lotus, for which she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress In a Drama Series and shared in the cast’s SAG Award win for Best Drama Series Ensemble.
She will next be seen in the MRC/Amazon feature G20 opposite Viola Davis, in Julian Schnabel’s In The Hand Of Dante opposite Oscar Isaac and Gal Gadot and has a guest role in the upcoming second season of the Italian-language adaptation of the French hit series Call Me Agent for Sky. Impacciatore is repped by Gersh, MGMT and Gianni Chiffi.
Possibly foreshadowing his involvement in The Office offshoot, Gleeson has recently worked closely with two of the stars of the original NBC series. He starred opposite Steve Carell in the FX limited series The Patient, earning a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award nomination for his performance. He will soon be seen in the Apple feature Fountain of Youth, directed by Guy Ritchie, alongside John Krasinski as well as Natalie Portman.
Gleeson currently stars in the limited series Alice & Jack opposite Andrea Riseborough, which he also executive produced, for Channel 4/PBS Masterpiece. He also recently co-starred in David Mandel’s HBO limited series White House Plumbers, in which he portrayed John Dean opposite Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux.
Coming up, Gleeson stars in the Apple feature Echo Valley alongside Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney. He is repped by Paradigm, The Agency, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christoper.
