Recall Alert: Over 100,000 Bottles Of Deodorizers, Oil Blends Pulled Over Poisoning Risks, Violation

KEY POINTS

  • The products don't have child-resistant packaging and violates a labeling requirement
  • The recall affects certain Aesop deodorizers and oil burner blends
  • Customers can register on the company website to get a refund

Aesop USA is recalling about 154,300 units of its Post-Poo Drops bathroom deodorizers and Oil Burner Blends because of a poisoning risk. They reportedly don't meet packaging standards.

The products pose a poisoning risk because they contain low-viscosity hydrocarbons. They must be in child-resistant packaging under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA), said the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Furthermore, the products have also violated the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA) by "omitting the mandatory information on the packaging."

The PPPA, which was enacted in 1970, requires certain household substances to be in child-resistant packaging so that it would not be easy for children under five years old to open them. The FHSA requires certain hazardous household products to provide "precautionary labeling" about safe usages, such as what to do if an accident happens.

According to the announcement, there have been three reports of "skin irritation/negative skin reaction" in the U.S. linked to the Oil Burner Blends.

The recall affects Aesop Post-Poo Drops packaged in 100-milliliter amber bottles with the UPC number 9319944009200. Post-Poo deodorizers in four home kits – The Protector (UPC 9319944030198), The Seasoned Wayfarer (UPC 9319944023794), The Melodist (UPC 9319944022278) and The Familiar Horizon (UPC 9319944016017) – are also included in the recall.

"Only the Aesop Post-Poo Drops in the kit are included in this recall," the agency said.

In the case of Aesop Oil Burner Blends, the recall affects Anouk (UPC 9319944000696), Beatrice (UPC 9319944000702), Catherine (UPC 9319944000689) and Isabelle (UPC 9319944016871) blends packaged in 25 ml amber glass bottles.

"This recall does not affect any other Aesop products," the company noted.
