Exercise equipment maker Peloton has been under fire for the past few weeks after 39 reported accidents on its treadmill. The company's CEO John Foley stated that he has “no intentions” of taking it off the market.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a warning to those who own a Tread+ to stop using it immediately, especially if owners have pets or children. Multiple children have become “entrapped, pinned and pulled under” the machine. One child died in an accident in March.
The federal agency even released a series of tweets of what to do if you have already purchased a Tread+.
Peloton released a statement attacking the CPSC, stating that it was both “inaccurate and misleading” and that there’s “no reason” to stop using the machine if the safety instructions are followed.
"At no time was Peloton trying to impede CPSC's investigation," Foley said. "We were simply standing behind our members' right to maintain their privacy, and we remain committed to providing this type of information only with a member's consent or pursuant to a subpoena.”
He also explained that the instructions state that no one under the age of 16 should be using the product, so there’s “no intention” to recall the equipment.
