Patriots sign JuJu Smith-Schuster as they eye other receivers in trades

JuJu Smith-Schuster is dancing over to a new AFC contender.

The wide receiver agreed a three-year, $33 million contract on Wednesday with the Patriots, according to multiple reports.

The deal is similar to that of Jakobi Meyers, who the Patriots lost to the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.

Smith-Schuster made the move after winning a Super Bowl with the Chiefs last season.

The Patriots, according to The Athletic, may be in the market for more receiving help.

They inquired into trading for DeAndre Hopkins (Cardinals) and Jerry Jeudy (Broncos), and attended Odell Beckham Jr.’s workout in Arizona last week.

The 26-year-old Smith-Schuster began his NFL career with the Steelers, where he spent five seasons, with career-highs of 1,426 yards and 111 receptions in 2018.

In Smith-Schuster’s one season with Patrick Mahomes’ and Andy Reid’s Chiefs, he had 78 catches for 933 yards.

His most famous play with the Chiefs might have been on a penalty, though.

Eagles cornerback James Bradberry was called for holding in the Super Bowl against Smith-Schuster on the Chiefs’ final drive.

The controversial call allowed the Chiefs to essentially run out the clock before kicking the game-winning field goal in the 38-35 victory.

Smith-Schuster, known for his TikTok dances and other social media exploits, has spent the time since mocking Bradberry and the Eagles in a bizarre feud.

It will be interesting to see how Smith-Schuster’s outlandish personality meshes with gruff Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

This upcoming season, Smith-Schuster will partner with Mac Jones, who is entering his third year with the Patriots after throwing for, 2,997 yards for 14 touchdowns, and completing 65.2 percent of his passes during New England’s 8-9 season.
