Nick Kyrgios blames ‘sexual frustration’ for tennis struggles

Being away from a significant other early into his tennis career affected Nick Kyrgios in a very specific way.

Speaking recently on his “No Boundaries” podcast, the Australian tennis star explained how his “sexual frustration” played a role in his athletic performance.

“With my first girlfriend, I was away from her for six months at a time,” Kyrgios said, according to news.com.au.

“When you’re trying to perform at the highest level, you start missing someone like emotionally, physically and it becomes a sexual frustration.”

Kyrgios, whose former flames include Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya and Croatian-Australian tennis player Ajla Tomljanović, further detailed that spending a significant amount of time away from a loved one can impact “your work, your mood, everything.”

“I’m on court and I can’t play because I’m a bit horny, if you know what I mean,” he said.

Krygios was once ranked as high as No. 13 world in 2016, but has plummeted to 91 this year. Kyrgios, known for his frequent on-court outbursts, has hinted at retirement in recent interviews.

Although Kyrgios didn’t specify his lady in waiting at the time, the 26-year-old — who was most recently linked to Chiara Passari — said he was “the moodiest motherf—ker when [he] was away from [his] missus for that long.”

Kyrgios and Passari were involved in an incident last month in which the police were involved, though “no offenses were disclosed.” Passari seemingly posted a photo on Instagram of Kyrgios in bed with another woman, sparking an argument between the two.

In addition to his love life, Kyrgios said that time apart from his family also soured some relations.

“My relationship with my family wasn’t great a few years ago because I was always away and didn’t have my family around me,” Kyrgios said.

He later added, “I pushed everyone who was close to me away and I fell out with people and that’s something I’d never want again.”
