Why Broncos’ Von Miller isn’t embracing the tempting Aaron Rodgers rumors

Who wouldn’t want Aaron Rodgers on their team?

If Rodgers does indeed get traded by the Packers, the Broncos have been favored to land the three-time MVP and one-time Super Bowl champ. However, Broncos star outside linebacker Von Miller is trying to focus on the current roster rather than any possible additions.

“If you get too emotionally involved in those guys, and then it doesn’t happen, now you got [Drew] Lock over here looking like . . . what about now?’” Miller told the Las Vegas Review-Journal at his fifth annual pass rushing summit. “So you don’t want to get too emotionally attached to the rumors. . . . You start thinking, ‘Oh, we’re going to get Aaron Rodgers or Deshaun Watson. But hold on, wait a minute, we’ve got Drew Lock. That’s who we’re running with. That’s who we’re going into the season with until anything changes.”

After sitting out for three games due to a sprained AC Joint, Lock finished the 2020 season with 2,933 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. The Broncos, riddled with injuries across the roster, ended the season with a 5-11 record.

Meanwhile, Rodgers finished the season with 4,299 yards, 48 touchdowns, and give interceptions, while completing 70.7 percent of his throws. His fantastic season was capped off by winning his third career MVP award.

However, Rodgers was unable to accomplish his goal of winning a second Super Bowl. The 13-3 Packers loss to the Buccaneers 31-26 in the NFC Championship Game.

Miller, 32, realizes his time for winning another Super Bowl is winding down and the impact that Rodgers could have on his chances to reach that goal.

“It’s crazy to think about getting an Aaron Rodgers. You put him on any team in the league and he changes that team.” Miller said.

The trade rumors began just before the 2021 NFL draft. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Rodgers grew disgruntled with Green Bay’s organization and that teams, such as the 49ers, were starting to check in on Rodgers’ availability.

Rodgers has voiced the uncertainty of his Packers future after the NFC championship loss. He has skipped mandatory minicamp with the Packers last week after he demanded a trade and Green Bay did not oblige.
