Transfer Rumors: Manchester United Not Yet Done In Bolstering Lineup After Obtaining Diallo

KEY POINTS

  • Manchester United is close to completing the Amad Diallo transfer
  • The Red Devils will pursue more deals before deadline day
  • Manchester United is yet to decide on a move for Moises Caicedo

Manchester United is close to announcing the club’s first recruit of the January transfer window with Amad Diallo expected to arrive from Atlanta this week.

The Red Devils are expected to remain active going forward and could sign more than just the teenage winger this month.

The 18-year-old agreed to join Manchester United before the end of the last transfer window in October after the Italian club accepted the English Premier League club’s $50 million offer.

Unfortunately, they were unable to get the deal done before the deadline.

The Ivory Coast-born booter is now close to completing the paperwork after having got his Italian passport and is expected to arrive in Manchester this week to make it official.

Atlanta was keen to retain Diallo’s services on loan for the rest of the season, but Manchester United and the player are said to have rejected the request.

The Old Trafford-based football club is not expected to stop there, with Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggesting that they are likely to make further additions later in the month before the Jan. 31 deadline.

Ecuadorian standout Moises Caicedo continues to be on the team's radar but Manchester United is yet to decide if they will pay the $5 million-worth release that his current employers Independiente del Valle are asking.

Reports claim that Caicedo seems to open to signing a five-year deal in order to suit up for a contender squad mentored by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“I expect more from Manchester United. We have to follow the situation with another interesting young player like Moises Caicedo, a good talent. They must decide whether to spend some money on him or not,” Romano wrote in his column for Sky Sports.

With Caicedo being on top of the priority list, the Italian pundit feels that Manchester United will pull the plug on their pursuit of Red Bull Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, who was once considered the prime target of Solskjaer.

Romano believes the Red Devils will revisit their plans of making a move for Upamecano this coming summer.

“At center-back, it's very difficult to see them going for Dayot Upamecano at this moment. It'll possibly be next summer before we see about him,” Romano stated. “But I would bet on something more than just Amad Diallo joining Manchester United this month.”
