The day before the Titans selected Rashad Weaver in the fourth round, he was charged with a misdemeanor simple assault in Pittsburgh, according to court records.
The 23-year-old Weaver was not arrested, but was given a summons to appear in court in October following an April 18 incident with a woman, USA Today Sports reported.
“We were made aware of this news this morning,” a Titans statement read. “We obviously take this seriously and are in the process of gathering details and working with the league.”
The Titans don’t have a good recent history with draft picks and the law. 2020 first-round pick Isaiah Wilson was arrested multiple times and traded to the Dolphins in March. He was released by Miami shortly thereafter.
The criminal complaint against Weaver, who was a defensive end at the University of Pittsburgh, said that officers responded to a criminal complaint and found a woman on the ground surrounded by a group of people. A witness said a man, who was Identified as Weaver, punched her. A second witness, however, did not see Weaver hit her. Weaver was not there when police arrived. An officer at the scene wrote that the injury the woman sustained was not consistent with a punch.
The report alleged that Weaver and the woman got into an argument earlier in the night and were separated when she spilled a drink on him. She said she threw her drink at him, according to the complaint. But she said she went to the hospital because she was vomiting. She was diagnosed with a concussion.
