Tina Fey and Amy Poehler sent a secret message at the 2021 Golden Globes

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler pulled no punches as hosts of Sunday night’s Golden Globes.

However, one of their strongest messages was delivered via doodles of hearts and stars on the duo’s hands — a nod to 49-year-old Poehler’s upcoming movie, “Moxie.”

“In Poehler’s new movie, the design is a battle cry — worn by anyone who is sick of the status quo and willing to stand up and fight for what they believe in,” Netflix’s account tweeted in explanation.

The movie, which Poehler directed, finds 16-year-old Vivian (played by Hadley Robinson) challenging the toxic masculinity at her high school by starting a zine, inspired by her mother’s rebellious past.

Wearing matching dresses to start the show from opposite coasts, Fey and Poehler weren’t shy about challenging the status quo. During the broadcast, they addressed the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s lack of black members, as recently revealed in a damning report.

“The HFPA is made up of about 90 international no black journalists,” Fey, 50, said. “We say around 90 because a couple of them might be just ghosts and it’s rumored the German member is just a sausage that somebody drew a little face on.”

“This is something we probably should have told you earlier, everyone is understandably upset at the HFPA and their choices,” Poehler added. “A lot of flashy garbage got nominated. But that happens, that’s like their thing. A number of black actors and black-led projects were overlooked.”

“We all know awards shows are stupid,” said Fey, to which Poehler responded, “We all know they’re a scam invented by big red carpet.”
