‘The Show’ Episode 86: A.J. Hinch Talks Tigers Expectations, Offseason

The Mets’ and Yankees’ offseasons have left much to be desired — especially the Mets’.

Are both teams done for the winter? Is this essentially the roster they will bring to spring training? What else needs to be done?

Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman break down a somewhat lackluster winter for the New York baseball teams on “The Show” podcast.

A team that could be on the rise this year is the Detroit Tigers. Their manager A.J. Hinch joined Joel and Jon on this week’s episode.

‘The Show’ podcast with Joel Sherman & Jon Heyman:

  • METS QUESTION MARKS: Goal and expectations have been set back. They look to be looking forward more to 2025.
  • YANKEES OUTLOOK: Don’t understand the outlook of them being heavy favorites. Orioles are a young team and could get better. Yankees rotation still has question marks.
  • HALL OF FAME VOTING: All candidates should stay on the ballot for at least three years. Move the Hall of Fame ceremony to late June when less is going on.

Tigers manager

  • PLAYOFFS: Understands what it takes to win. Would love to end the playoff drought.
  • CORA/BAEZ: Have wanted to hire Joey Cora for years. They need Javy Baez to be good this year. He’s been having a good offseason. Looking for a bounceback year from him.
  • THIRD BASE: Who will play most time at third base for them?
  • PITCHING: Sneaky good group of pitchers. Could be a good competition in spring for rotation. Bullpen was great last year. Excited for Maeda.
  • MARK CANHA: He’s very disciplined at the plate. He has a competitive edge. He will primarily be a corner outfield and occasionally at first base.
