Lionsgate Movies has released the first trailer for ‘The Crow,’ starring Bill Skarsgård in the iconic role of The Crow, in this modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr.
Directed by Rupert Sanders, the film is written by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider, based on the 1989 limited comic book series by O’Barr. Serving as a reboot, it will be the fifth installment in The Crow film series.
What is the Plot of ‘The Crow’?
Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.
The film stars Skarsgård as Eric Draven/The Crow, Twigs as Shelly Webster, Isabella Wei as Zadie, along with Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger. Watch the trailer below.
Image Source: Lionsgate In an interview with Vanity Fair, Sanders said, “What drew me to this was the opportunity to make a dark romance, something that dealt with loss, grief, and the ethereal veil between life and death and reaching through that.”
Produced by Edward R. Pressman, Samuel Hadida, Victor Hadida, Molly Hassell, and John Jencks, the film is a collaborative effort between production companies Davis Films, Hassell Free Productions, Electric Shadow Company, Pressman Film, and Ashland Hill Media Finance. It will be distributed by Lionsgate in the United States and by FilmNation Entertainment internationally.
Sanders continued, “Obviously, it was a terrible tragedy, and it’s definitely something that we’ve always had in mind through the making of the film.” Sanders added, “Brandon was an original voice and I think he will always be synonymous with ‘The Crow,’ and I hope he’s proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve brought the story back again. His soul is very much alive in this film. There’s a real fragility and beauty to his version of the Crow, and I think Bill feels like he is a successor to that.”
